Scientist / Postdoc (m/f/d): Spatial Metabolomics
The Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften - ISAS - e. V. develops efficient analytical methods for health research. Thus, it contributes to the improvement of the prevention, early diagnosis, and therapy of diseases like cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases or cancer. Overall, the institute strives to advance precision medicine by combining knowledge from different fields such as biology, chemistry, pharmacology, physics, and computer science. ISAS is a member of the Leibniz Association and is publicly funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and its federal states.
At our location in Dortmund we invite applications for a
Scientist / Postdoc (m/f/d): Spatial Metabolomics
For this position, focus will be placed on the analytical advancement of MALDI mass spectrometry imaging and its complimentary modalities. High resolution MSI of metabolite molecules will be incorporated with advancing MALDI imaging hardware, along with microscopy and LMD-LC/MS workflows to achieve a Multi-Omics approach to analytical analysis. Applications of these methods will be applied to cancer and cardiovascular disease models.
- Implementing and advancing new mass spectrometry imaging techniques including incorporation of MALDI-2 and t-MALDI for metabolite imaging
- Sample preparation development/instrument optimization to increase spatial resolution of MALDI MS-imaging within mammalian tissues
- Implement a Multi-Omics approach with other modalities, for example NMR, microscopy and laser microdissection
- Design of independent experiments and communicate with collaboration partners
- Preparation and submission of scientific outputs, including research publications and representation at conferences (national and international)
- University degree (Ph.D. or similar) in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or similar topic
- Required practical experience in MALDI mass spectrometry and a background in analytical sciences
- Experience in sample preparation, running and analysis of MALDI imaging for high resolution MS
- Ability to work in a structured manner, independently and within a team
- Experience of student supervision (PhD, Master and Undergraduate students)
- Programming skills are a benefit but not required
- Very good knowledge of English (written and spoken)
- Scientific development opportunities in an international cooperative, interdisciplinary research environment and an excellent working atmosphere in a very dynamic and professional team
- Extensive state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure
- The opportunity to present your data on international conferences and participate in workshops
