Scientist / Postdoc (m/f/d): Proteomics
The Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften - ISAS - e. V. develops efficient analytical methods for health research. Thus, it contributes to the improvement of the prevention, early diagnosis, and therapy of diseases like cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases or cancer. Overall, the institute strives to advance precision medicine by combining knowledge from different fields such as biology, chemistry, pharmacology, physics, and computer science. ISAS is a member of the Leibniz Association and is publicly funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and its federal states.
This position will be to fulfill the work outlined in the consortium project ‘B2B-RARE: Bench to bedside – Mechanisms of rare diseases and personalized treatment', funded by EFRE-NRW. This work will heavily involve the development and implementation of LC-MS based proteomics for small sample inputs, with a focus on extending coverage and sensitivity for proteins within fibroblast samples. In corporation with consortium partners, data generated will be analyzed for a multi-omic approach to analysis, with the goal of implementation of findings into the clinic.
- Developing methods for low sample inputs for proteomics in high resolution mass spectrometry, with applications in neuromuscular diseases
- Optimizing workflows for LC-MS to improve sample coverage and recovery from a single skin biopsy sample
- Analysis and evaluation of proteomic data with state-of-the-art MS analysis software
- Design of experiments and communication/integration with collaboration partners
- Preparation and submission of scientific outputs, including research publications and representation at conferences (national and international)
- University degree (Ph.D. or similar) in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or similar
- A background in analytical sciences, with required experience in high resolution LC-MS/MS such as Orbitrap technologies and Thermo Scientific based MS instruments
- Required experience in sample preparation for proteome analysis from biological material
- Experience with common proteome software analyses such as Spectronaut and experience in analyzing complex proteomic datasets
- Ability to work in a structured manner, independently and within a team
- Programming skills are a benefit but not required
- Very good knowledge of English (written and spoken), with German as a benefit
- Scientific development opportunities in an international cooperative, interdisciplinary research environment and an excellent working atmosphere in a very dynamic and professional team
- Extensive state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure
- The opportunity to present your data on international conferences and participate in workshops
- A wide range of opportunities for further training and qualifications
- Flexible working times, mobile working and attractive social benefits
- Support in finding balance between work and family life (including finding childcare facilities, advice on caring for relatives) through a family service
- Workplace health promotion and support for participation in TU Dortmund University sports activities
