Description of the organisation

At CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers investigate the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the largest and most complex scientific instruments in the world, they study the basic components of matter - elementary particles colliding with each other at almost the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact and provides insight into the fundamental laws of nature.

We are looking for more than just physicists! We offer a variety of different career opportunities from student to professional in disciplines such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, IT, data science, material science, robotics, etc. And currently we are again looking for students to take part in our exciting Technical Student Program and do an internship for 4-12 months while still studying

At CERN you will work on the largest machine in the world with people from a wide variety of disciplines in one of the most international environments you can imagine. In addition to the exciting work, CERN also offers over 40 clubs and is beautifully surrounded by lakes and mountains.
CERN Technical Student Programmes for Bachelor and Master students in the following fields:
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Materials and Surface Science
  • Applied Physics
  • IT, Mathematics & Robotics
  • General/Civil Engineering
If you are a Bachelor's or Master's student in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials and surface science, applied physics, IT, mathematics, robotics or general or civil engineering and would like to gain your first work experience already while studying, CERN in Geneva could be your chance. As part of the program, you will work on an exciting project in an international environment in the relevant domain and, in consultation with the supervisor, you could even write your bachelor's or master's thesis about your CERN project. We also recommend that interested candidates apply for several programs in parallel if applicants have gained experience in different domains s during their studies and/or former internships.
Further information and the link to the applications in the 6 domains can be found on the CERN careers website at careers.cern - Our Opportunities - Students - Technical Student Program.
